this article mirrors my view of the kinect. it will be interesting to see if this goes anywhere but casual gaming avenues. with this holiday season, we have sony and microsoft focusing on new hardware that revamps this current generation of consoles but what we actually need are great games.

until the software is out there for me to see i'm indifferent. i see the sony move being something i may consider but the kinect is a dud, an expensive one.

I'm definitely looking forward to the 3DS--LoZ:OoT is my favorite N64 game, so to see it ported and revamped will be great. I also heard good things about it.

I just didn't like the presentations for everything, I think :(

I agree with your view on the whole MS WiiBox presentation. With Sony I thought the same. Hey look we have 3D glasses and movable controllers and we will blow you away with the new this new technology.

But I believe you will be surprised by the 3D of the 3DS as it adds to the game play somewhat.

I was critical and it was about gaming.

Pretty sure a news site would say MS' presentation was 'really cool' and that they were 'excited to see the direction the product went in.'

It was more of our impressions of the press conference rather than the product itself. We were expecting to see some actual games being played on the Kinect, but what we saw was the presentation of a product that very few asked for.

I thought this was going to be a critical gaming blog and not another news site? Meaning, articles driven by personal experiences rather than knee-jerk reactions. It's hard to be objective in your criticism when all you've seen of this product is a press conference.

I don't think I agree that the Kinect is all bad, but it's certainly being misused.

Sure, the potential for hands-free gaming is going to appeal to non-gamers, but these are exactly the kinds of people that won't be watching E3, so why not try to appeal to gamers instead? Worry about non-gamers when you're making your prime-time TV ads.

To say that Kinect has nothing to offer to seasoned gamers however, is a testament to how unimaginative Microsoft's been with the technology. I see the potential for Kinect to work in conjunction with a traditional controller, rather than replace it.

Imagine for example if a game paused automatically if it sensed you getting up? How about if a horror title took note of when you jumped, and adjusted the experience accordingly.

There ARE genuinely innovative things to be done with Kinect, it's just that Microsoft is choosing to ignore them.

Brilliant article. I completely agree with your statement that revolutonism should come from the bottom not the top.

I was more concerned about Natal than I was the Move purely because it lacks a tangible controller. I cannot see past Natal providing anything but gimicky, shallow games...

The best Wii games (there are some, honest) use a button, analogue stick control set up and implement "waggle" for special circumstances / moves / set-peices / etc. Move will hopefully follow this pattern and end up providing the experience we all initially expected from the Wii (1 to 1).

At the end of the day I think both are going to struggle. Nintendo was the real winner because they brought kick-ass titles and plenty of them. Not a new uber-controller.

actually there's that new star wars title as a flagship for it. but that's pretty bad if u ask me. I just hate the slashing animations.
